Who’s Laughing Now?

March 2, 2014

Back during the 2012 presidential campaign, Mitt Romney made the statement that Russia is our number one geopolitical foe. Obama and the Democrats laughed at Romney for this statement, saying that Romney was out of touch and still living in the Cold War. In 2008 Sarah Palin predicted that Russia might invade the Ukraine because of Obama’s indecisiveness. She was derided for being an ignorant snowbilly who couldn’t understand that Barack Obama was bringing forth a new era of smart diplomacy. During the 2012 Vice-Presidential debate, Paul Ryan emphasized that we live in a dangerous world, which thanks to President Obama’s actions, or rather inactions, was becoming more dangerous. Joe Biden giggled at such a foolish statement.

English: Barack Obama and Joe Biden

Well, it looks as though Russia is preparing to invade the Ukraine. We seem to be entering into a new Cold War with Russia. Russia is negotiating for access to bases for its ships and bombers in strategic spots throughout the world. Who’s laughing now?

The bad guys all over the world, that’s who. They know that a weakened America gives them more freedom to act, often in ways that do not promote the cause of peace and freedom. I hope that those who believe that America is what’s wrong with the world are paying attention to what is happening in the world. We have had several decades of (relative) peace and prosperity. Many people in the West have come to believe that this is what is the norm. It is not. If America is weak or fails uphold its responsibilities for helping to keep the peace in the world, things could get very bad, very quickly. Then, none of us will be laughing.

Don’t Know Much about the History of Slavery

November 17, 2013

I found this YouTube video by Newsbusters courtesy of Moonbattery.com. MSNBC correspondent Martin Bashir calls Sarah Palin America’s resident dunce for suggesting that the result of our ever growing national debt will be to condemn our children and grandchildren to slavery. He is outraged by the abuses and atrocities that slave owners committed against their slaves and suggests that Palin ought to be subject to the same abuses.

I am sure that what bothers most viewers of thus clip, at least the decent viewers, is the venomous hatred Bashir spews against Sarah Palin. What impresses me however, is that the joke is actually on the man who thinks that Sarah Palin is an idiot. As it happens, one of the most common forms of slavery through the ages and even today is debt slavery.

Debt slavery is a situation in which someone will borrow money and to repay the loan will agree to work for his creditor. Somehow because of interest and other charges levied on the debtor, he never is quite able to work off the loan. This form of slavery was very common in ancient Rome and many other parts of the world, including the American colonies where white settlers became indentured servants in order to pay the cost of passage across the Atlantic. It is still prevalent today even though it is prohibited by international law. So, it may just be possible that Sarah Palin knew what she was talking about.

Actually, Martin Bashir doesn’t seem to know very much about slavery at all, judging from his commentary. He seems to believe that slavery was invented in the American colonies in the sixteenth century and that the conditions faced by the black slaves were somehow uniquely horrible. In fact, slavery has existed throughout human history in various forms, some more oppressive than others. The conditions of the black slaves on the North American mainland were more humane than in the Caribbean islands where the slaves were worked to death. Slavery in the Roman Empire was especially cruel as a slave owner had the legal right to kill or rape his slaves. Moreover the Arabs were involved in the African slave trade for centuries before the Europeans and continued the trade  until the European powers ended it with the colonization of Africa

. Of course slavery is always oppressive and degrading but perhaps Bashir should learn that America was not the only place slaves were kept and that there have been many different types of slavery.

Aid and Comfort

June 16, 2013

Sarah Palin has some good advice about aiding the Syrian rebels.

WASHINGTON – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin criticized the Obama administration’s decision to supply weapons to the rebels in the civil war in Syria today, arguing that the U.S. should “Let Allah sort it out” until there is a stronger leader in the White House.

“Militarily, where is our commander in chief? We’re talking now more new interventions. I say until we know what we’re doing, until we have a commander in chief who knows what he’s doing, well, let these radical Islamic countries who aren’t even respecting basic human rights, where both sides are slaughtering each other as they scream over an arbitrary red line, ‘Allah Akbar,’ I say until we have someone who knows what they’re doing, I say let Allah sort it out,” Palin said at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference.

Of course, Palin is just an ignorant snow billy from Alaska who cannot properly appreciate the subtleties of Obama’s foreign policy.

Meanwhile, our newfound allies in Syria have been massacring Christians and blowing up Shi’ite mosques.

It is important to realize that the Baathist regimes in Syria and Iraq have maintained their power by placing minorities such as Christians and heterodox Muslims in powerful positions in their governments, at the expense of the Sunni Muslims. Now that the regime in Iraq has been overthrow and is tottering in Syria, the situation of these minorities have gotten much worse as the Sunnis have sought to exact revenge. There are no good guys here and helping either side would be giving aid and comfort to our enemies.

Sarah Palin is Not an Idiot

March 3, 2013

The conventional wisdom about Sarah Palin is that she is an ignorant snowbilly, too stupid to be trusted with any responsible position. John McCain’s choice of her as his running mate was such an obvious blunder that it cost him the election.

English: Sarah Palin speaking at a rally in El...

Well, if Sarah Palin is really so stupid, how is it that she understands the necessity of the federal government putting its fiscal house in order better than anyone who is actually in Washington D.C. ?

D.C.: Cut the Drama. Do Your Job.Americans are sick and tired of yet another ginned-up crisis. D.C. needs to grow up, get to work, and live within its means. The real economic Armageddon looming before us is our runaway debt, not the sequester, which the President advocated for and signed into law and is now running around denouncing because he never had any genuine intention of reining in his reckless spending.

Remember that this sequestration deal came about because of the long debt ceiling standoff in the summer of 2011. It wasn’t the ideal outcome for anyone, but it did at least include real deficit reduction of about $110 billion per year for 10 years, which is still nowhere near enough to close our massive deficit. Keep in mind that since the sequester passed, the President has already hit American families and small business owners with his tax increases, or “more revenue” as he likes to call it. The American public doesn’t want tax increases; we want government to rein in its overspending.

If we can’t stomach modest cuts that would lower federal spending by a mere 0.3% per year out of a current federal budget of $3.6 trillion, then we might as well signal to the whole world that we have no serious intention of dealing with our debt problem.

If we are going to wet our proverbial pants over 0.3% in annual spending cuts when we’re running up trillion dollar annual deficits, then we’re done. Put a fork in us. We’re finished. We’re going to default eventually and that’s why the feds are stockpiling bullets in case of civil unrest.

If we ARE serious about putting our fiscal house in order, then let’s stop the hysterics, tighten our belts, and take our medicine.

– Sarah Palin

I have to make one small correction here. The 0.3% spending cuts are not cuts at all, at least not in the way that normal people would understand cuts, they are simply cuts in rate of growth.

I guess that Sarah Palin lacks the superior intelligence and budgetary management skills of Joe Biden.

Money for Thingamajigs

June 3, 2012

Here President Obama shows off the intellectual acuity that has made him one of the top four presidents and more knowledgeable about Judaism, Polish death camps, and the 57 states than any other president.

I shouldn’t make fun since I know how easy it is to say something stupid when speaking in public, but if George W. Bush or Sarah Palin had made a statement like this, the MSM would be showing it as irrefutable proof of their stupidity.

Sarah Palin Treats Reporters Like Paparazzi

May 31, 2011

Form CBS News and Drudge. Apparently the reporters sent to cover Sarah Palin’s bus tour are complaining because they are not being told where she is going;

Since Palin and her team won’t share where the potential candidate is headed, reporters and producers have little choice but to simply stay close to Palin’s bus. This has resulted in scenes of the Palin bus tooling down the highway followed by a caravan of 10 or 15 vehicles all trying to make sure they don’t lose sight of the Palin bus.

Well it’s not like they were going to give her fair coverage anyway. Sarah Palin, unlike some Republicans seems to be aware that nothing she will ever do is likely to get positive coverage from the Old Media, so why bother to try? Instead, she has decided to go around the Mainstream Media to get information out to her fans.

Palin has repeatedly cast the press corps as treating her unfairly, and has tried to make her Facebook and Twitter accounts primary sources of information about her – a strategy she is continuing with the bus tour, for which she is directing interested parties to her political action committee website. (Information about a visit only goes up after she has made the stop.) Earlier this month, she discussed her feelings about the media with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, complaining about “that goofy game that has been played now for too many years with the leftist mainstream media trying to twist the candidates’ words and intent and content of their statements.”

“I think to start with, we ignore some of these reporters and their requests for us to comment and be interviewed,” she said. “We know going into what they are going to do to us to as conservatives — so, why participate in their game?”

It will be interesting to see how successful she is at this. This may be the beginning of the end of any relevance the mainstream has in politics.
